ITINERARY SUGGESTION: Finland's Northern Lights

Looking for something different and exciting? How about joining in an adventure in February 2022 for the elusive Northern Lights and discover fascinating Finland with a small group of explorers?

Each year, during the winter months, travelers journey to Finland and venture out into the dark to see the magical but elusive northern lights. This natural phenomenon is the product of collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere, yielding spectacular results. Streaks of colorful light that change from white to pink to purple, and most commonly, to green, dazzle and move the open sky like it’s nature’s own dance party. It is known that the best time to witness the northern lights in Finland is from late September to mid-April when the nights are the longest. Well worth the pursuit, this is a truly remarkable light show that’s not to be missed.

These small group tours give travelers access to the world in a truly authentic way. On these active, immersive journeys, travelers connect with the cultures of the world on a deeper, more meaningful level in ways that are hard to replicate. The group size is kept small, allowing these journeys to be the most active, engaging, and rewarding experience possible.  With just 12-24 passengers, these are the personal adventures that today's cultural explorers dream of.

  • Introduce yourself to majestic Lappish reindeer and meet Santa Claus himself.
  • Lead your very own dog sled team.
  • Spend the night in a glass igloo amid the Lappish wilderness.

Suggested Itinerary: HOLY LAND

Anyone interested in joining me on a faith-based adventure to the Holy Land starting December 1, 2020?

Day 1 - Depart USA Your pilgrimage begins as you depart the USA on an overnight flight.
Day 2- You will be welcomed at the Tel Aviv airport by our representative and transferred to your Bethlehem hotel to enjoy dinner before retiring for the night.
Day 3 - Begin your touring in the Holy Land by visiting the Herodion, the fortified palace, and the final resting place of Herod the Great. In Bethlehem, gaze out over Shepherds’ Field and visit the Church of the Nativity, where the cave revered as Jesus’ birthplace resides in the world’s oldest functioning church (Luke 2). Overnight in Bethlehem.
Day 4 - Visit the Jordan River Baptismal site of Qasr el Yahud, the traditional site of the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. Those who wish may be baptized. Stop in Jericho, the oldest known inhabited city in the world. Visit the ruins of the ancient city, which was conquered by Joshua (Josh. 6: 1,2,20), and see parts of the ancient city walls that have been uncovered. From Jericho, you can see the traditional site of the Temptation of Jesus (Matt.4: 1-11) and the Judean wilderness. Visit Qumran, the site of the Dead Sea Scroll discovery, to discuss the mysterious community of Essenes who once lived on the shores of the Dead Sea. Stop briefly at the Shores of the Dead Sea for a quick dip in the salt and mineral-laden waters. Overnight in Bethlehem.
Day 5 - Explore the Church of the Fish and the Loaves at Tabgha, the traditional site of the feeding of the 5,000 (Luke 9:10-17). On the Mount of Beatitudes, contemplate the “Sermon on the Mount” (Matt. 5-7). Visit Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ ministry in Galilee, and visit the synagogue built on the site where Jesus taught (Matt. 4:13, 23). Cross the waters of the Sea of Galilee on a very special boat ride, complete with an onboard worship service. In Magdala, once home to Mary Magdalene, visit a recently discovered first-century synagogue. Overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 6 - Visit Mt. Zion and stand in the Upper Room (John 13), near the traditional site of the Last Supper (Mark 14). You'll walk through some of the ancient rooms of Caiaphas the High Priest’s house beneath the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu. Here Jesus was held overnight before His crucifixion (Luke 22). Visit the Temple Mount, once the site of the Temple of Solomon. Take time to pray at the Western Wall. Sit on the Teaching Steps where Jesus once taught. Overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 7 - Stand atop the Mount of Olives as Jesus did and enjoy a remarkable view of the “Golden City” of Jerusalem. Forty days after His resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives (Acts 1: 9-12). Pray in the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26) among olive trees in the Kidron Valley across from the walls of Jerusalem. View the Pool of Bethesda where Jesus performed the Sabbath miracle (John 5: 1-31). Sing a hymn in the Church of St. Anne, known for its amazing acoustics. Visit Herod’s Antonia Fortress where Jesus was brought before Pontius Pilate (Luke 23: 1-11). Walk the Via Dolorosa, “the Way of the Cross,” and stand in reverence at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Your final destination allows time for reflection at the Garden Tomb. Enjoy dinner tonight before transferring to the airport for your return flight.
Day 8 - Arrive home with a new understanding of the Bible, the land, and the life of Jesus!

Why You Should Visit Europe in the Springtime

Europe in the Spring makes for a fantastic vacation. May is a great month to visit, actually, it's one of the three best months to tour Europe. The weather is likely to be excellent, and the big crowds are at work/school/college.

Following are the BEST PLACES TO VISIT in Europe this spring. Here are a few festivals going on in May (in no particular order):

Italy

  • Feast of San Nicola in Bari, the Feast of San Gennaro in Naples, the Festival of Snakes in Abruzzo.
  • Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence is Italy's oldest music event focuses on opera, ballet and concerts.
  • Vogalonga in Venice is hundreds of small, man-powered boats racing 30km, finishing in the Grand Canal.

France

  • Cannes Film Festival. Actually, that’s a bad thing unless you’re a film freak.
  • Chaumont Garden Festival – thirty wonderful and sometimes wacky show gardens around a perfect chateau (castle), every year May 15-October 19.

England

  • Isle of Man TT (motorcycle) Races, May/June.
  • Chelsea Flower Show in London – 11 acres of the UK’s (and arguably Europe’s) best flowers and gardens event, with plenty of original, even wacky ideas.
  • Glyndebourne Festival Opera (in a stately home outside London), late May-early July.

Netherlands

  • It's Tulip season. Seeing all those glorious blossoms in full bloom...spectacular!

Czech Republic

  • Prague Spring International Music Festival.

Austria

  • Vienna International Festival from mid-May to mid-June; a wide range of arts, especially music, naturally, but also dance and theatre, sometimes challenging pieces, all set in magnificent buildings.

Greece

  • Athens Festival – drama, dance, and music in the 2,000-year-old outdoor Odeion theatre at the base of Acropolis Hill. Location, location!
