Today in Disney Parks & Resorts History - Magic Kingdom Grand Opening Celebration

October 25, 1971 - Walt Disney World

24 days after the Magic Kingdom opened in Central Florida, Walt Disney World is formally dedicated by Walt's brother and lifelong business partner, Roy O. Disney.  Standing beside Roy during the dedication in Town Square is Mickey Mouse.  A Grand Opening parade featuring a 1,076-piece band, led by "The Music Man" Meredith Wilson himself (composer of "76 Trombones") goes down Main Street, U.S.A.  The event is filmed for television broadcast 4 days later.
